Snake skin guitar case #mediameditation

Small Houses is a Michigan based indie/folk group with finger picking guitars, strings, and soft introspective melodies, led by songwriter and arranger, Jeremy Quentin. Born in the suburbs of Flint, MI in the late 80s, he has been writing songs since day one, Small Houses follows the concept of life in these suburbs. In Feb. 2010, he will release the band’s debut album, “Our Dusking Sound,” which features artists from groups such as, The Verve Pipe, Hawks and Owls, Continental Things, Jen Sygit, and many more.

This is J. Quentin, the bands front man who I had the pleasure of seeing at the Radio Bean on Saturday night. A friend of mine had been at a house show - an intimate gathering at someone's house filled with music and drinks and a lot of Ray-Bans and cigarettes - where Quentin had played the night before and told me I had to see him. "Everyone's doing it!" was all it took for the sucker to get me on the BANDWAGON. After nearly an hour long set I was in a glorious daze from this kids music. I threw a fiver into the tip bowl and grabbed Our Dusking Sound, the latest/maybe first album by Small Houses. These CD's were a Burlington original that Quentin got made down at Kinko's on Main after he ran out of his more legitimate copies. I threw mine into iTunes and haven't stopped listening to it since.

Quentin was charming and HUMOROUS - appealing to his crowd with engaged laughter. He shared anecdotes of life as a musician from Michigan (with a radical snake skin guitar case) and connected himself to us through TESTIMONIAL while also staying very down-to-earth and PLAIN FOLK. He didn't have any trace of ego from what I could tell. He is certainly BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE and has a sort of WARM AND FUZZY characteristic about him. The crowd was invited to join in a REPETITIVE sing-a-long of "I am old, you are new" which has been stuck in my head, likewise keeping Quentin there. Our GROUP DYNAMICS just about shattered all the glass in that place. I had my first Spanish Chai and saw some old friends then went home to bake cookies and spin Our Dusking Sound - that night was really a great one.

You can listen to Small Houses too! And if you're into soulful folk tunes I suggest you do.
